Case Study.
The two images below show the removal of a load bearing
wall to develop an open plan kitchen and dining area. Without our calculations,
the builder may have under or over engineered the work. Both lead to problems
- under engineered steel beam supports are unsafe, over engineered steels will
push up costs unnecessarily.
Here you can see the space before the work was implemented. From the client's information we determined the amount of wall that could be safely removed and the size of steel joist that was needed to safely and efficiently support the upper floor.
The following photograph was taken after the load bearing wall was removed. The steel joist has been fitted across the gap where the wall previously existed, transferring and distributing the weight to the remaining walls, safely and correctly. Both the client and the builder were safe in the knowledge that the new beam was perfect for the job.
